The Social Media Blog Promotion Channel Every Blogger Should Use

Blogging and social networking sites may not have ‘grown up together’ but we can now be sure that go hand-in-glove with each other. Plenty of bloggers, myself included, use social to share and promote not only my own content but others I find useful and entertaining too. With plenty of social media platforms to choose from, which is the best one for a blogger to use?

The Best Social Media Blog Promotion Option

Social Media Blog Promotion via TwitterSocial media blog promotion is nothing new. Based on experience, many bloggers think of Facebook out of sheer user-base size (go where the people are) or Google+ (go where it’s most ‘beneficial’). However promoting content, as you may see from the social proof on this very blog, seems to be most successful on none other than Twitter.

Why Twitter Works for Bloggers

Twitter has two main advantages over either Facebook or Google+ in terms of social media blog promotion: its system and its convenience.

Facebook may be a huge platform, boasting over a billion users, but it hasn’t exactly been very friendly in terms of enabling users to promote their content (or others) on its News Feed. This is easy to prove; take a look at your own News Feed. Obviously, not all of your friends’ and pages’ updates show up – what makes yours any more special? Twitter leaves no tweet unseen; the lifespan of a tweet containing your URL  may be short but you can be sure it receives its due time ‘on air’.

Google+ is a favorite of many bloggers for social sharing but it’s easy to see that not many truly appreciate the promise and potential of G+. The logic goes that “if you want to rank high on Google, it must pay to be prominent on G+”. Like many other things in life though, it’s better to plow fields you know. Chances are that the average blogger is highly familiar with Twitter already and know the basic ways of promoting via this channel.

Takeaways:

  1. Use an auto-scheduler like Hootsuite to schedule 3-4 tweets throughout the day promoting your content. It has a built-in URL shortener, and coupled with the right hashtags, can see your content travel far and wide. Tweets spaced 3-5 hours apart, is best in order to maximize exposure, I have learned.
  2. Sign up at websites like Triberr, which promote true social engagement and connection. Friends made here are usually more than happy to help promote your awesome content.
  3. Grow your Twitter following by focusing on like-minded individuals/influencers. These people are easy to find via hashtags; retweet relevant tweets as well and grow relationships. Twitter has a significantly large community and many of these people love to find new and awesome content to read. Let them find yours!

thanks, I'm checking out Triberr right now... hopefully, it'll help me get more traffic although I'm very lazy when it comes to things like socializing and stuff... regarding hootsuite... I'll think about trying it...

@Romelo Hi there, thanks for the comment!

Well there might be where your problem lies :) To be on social media is to be social, and to receive one must always first give. Same with any sort of social syndication system, including Triberr.

Regarding scheduling tweets, don't think about trying it - use it :)

I really appreciate promoting thru Twitter, now I just have to sched my tweets about 3 hours apart. Thanks for the Tip! ;) I haven't tried Triberr yet, but I'll make sure to check it out. Thanks!

@Sumi Go Hi Sumi! Thanks for dropping by. Check out Hootsuite! I find that their free version is not too bad for a blogger who wishes to have auto-schedule features, URL shorteners, and social listening tools all in one.

triberr group helps a lot since it automatically tweets your tweets to all your group followers... but haven't visited it for quite a while now... if there are any developments.  Yahweh bless.

@r rollon Hi Ralph, yes, Triberr is cool. I've made quite a lot of friends there. More than social syndication, I appreciate the level of engagement via its system.

Hmm... I don't usually use my twitter, only when I join syndication. With all your points, I guess I will start using my account more often.

@CheRamos That's a pity. 2013 could be your year to make Twitter your best social promotion tool. Good luck!

Yaks, eye-opener ito para sa akin. I take for granted kasi the power of Tweeter. But reading thoroughly your Tweeter advantages against FB and G+, gives me a clear picture on why one must maximize Tweeter's potential in blog promotion. I might start with knowing more about the  auto-scheduler.

@DonaldPagulong Hi sir, it could be a great start to refer to it as "Twitter" :P Yes, auto-scheduling tweets makes sure that your content is always 'getting out there' even on times when you aren't online, asleep, or busy with other things.

Facebook has been so unpredictable in their news feeds as of late and even some of my post does not appear in my news feed or at times appear hours or even days later. Have to agree that twitter can be a better platform in terms of promotion of blogs.

@franckxethee Most of your updates will not appear [on other news feeds], that much is certain. At least Twitter won't skip your posts.
