What Boxing Taught Me: Donaire Win Lessons

December 15, 2012. Many Filipinos were afraid to experience the same fate suffered from Manny Pacquiao’s loss. Nonito “Filipino Flash” Donaire proved them wrong. Donaire once again displayed his talent and speed in boxing and on that day, the world witnessed his greatness for three rounds.

Donaire Win Lessons for Positive Thinkers

His victory allowed him to retain his title as the WBO Super Bantam Weight Champion. In line with my first post, here are some lessons we could learn from Donaire’s victory.

Humility still goes a long way.

Even named as the champion or the winner, one must still continue to respect the opponent even after the fight. The respect a winner gains always comes from the opponents. Therefore, they play a big role in your success. Enjoy the winning moment by acknowledging your triumph. Be proud but remain humble towards the aftermath.

A battle is a battle.

If you want to remain professional and succeed on what you do, keep this mindset at all times. In any competitive situations you may encounter in life, emotions and being naive will screw you up. Battle means battle mode. Holding back and not doing your best will waste your hard work. This is noticeable from Donaire and Arce’s pre-fight press conference that despite being friends, they battled as fighters in the ring but remained friends after the fight.

The brain is much stronger than the body.

Mentally strong is just as much as important as physically strong. So in any event of preparations for a battle, train not just your body but also your heart and mind to overcome challenges within the battle. Despite having injuries on his left knuckle, it was Donaire’s left hook that landed the winning strike of the bout.

Training determines the winner.

No matter how you view any battle tactic, the key to winning is simple: training. A strong body and a strong mind don’t show up in an instant, it is discovered and honed. Being in a perfect condition is not always the case but trainings and practices allows you to be in a prepared condition. People appreciated Donaire’s victory, but have they thought about the challenges and training he went through?

Never settle.

Winners and champions continue to train at their best no matter the result of any bout. To progress and to develop are the champions’ mindset win or lose after a fight. Keep training, learn more and continue to aim for glory despite a victory.

it's also wrong to assume that only Nonito trained and prepared for the fight... because, I'm sure his opponent also prepared and trained as much, if not even more... boxing, like most sports or games, will have a loser and a winner...

@Romelo Thanks for that additional statements, training goes for both sides, thus should be appreciated as well. Although there are instances, SPECIFICALLY boxing, wherein a Draw occurs. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. =)
